Rolf Sackenheim

Rolf Sackenheim (born September 26, 1921 in Koblenz ; † January 9, 2006 in Düsseldorf ) was a German artist and graphic designer .

life and work

From 1940, Sackenheim studied art at the Master School of German Crafts in Trier . He was drafted the following year, but released in 1942 due to a serious wound. In 1943 he began to study art in Karlsruhe , which he continued after a two-year break from 1947 to 1950 with Karl Hubbuch . In 1950 he moved to the Eifel , did watercolors, drew and developed theoretical insights into painting. Two years later he went to the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he became a master student of Otto Coester that same year . In 1958 he was awarded the Cornelius Prize of the City of Düsseldorf.

From 1960 he worked as a guest lecturer at the Werkkunstschule in Krefeld. In 1963 he went to the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a lecturer, where he later received the title of professor and became head of a class for printmaking. From 1969 to 1970 and from 1972 to 1976 he also served as the deputy director of the art academy. In 1984 he retired. He was also made an honorary member of the Münster Art Academy .

Since then he has lived as a painter in Düsseldorf. His pictures, etchings and graphics were shown in several exhibitions - both as early as 1959 at the documenta II in Kassel and in solo exhibitions (including in Düsseldorf).
