Wolfgang Schiffer (born May 5, 1946 in Nettetal-Lobberich , Germany ) is a German writer and translator of Icelandic literature. Until 2011 he was an editor in the radio play of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) .

Life

Wolfgang Schiffer grew up on the Lower Rhine . From 1967 to 1972 he studied German , philosophy and theater studies at the University of Cologne and graduated with a master's degree . In 1976 he began his career in the WDR, first as a radio play - dramatist , from 1991 until his retirement in May 2011 as editor in leading positions of the radio play and radio features . Schiffer was a member of the Steering Committee of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) from 1995 to 2003 . In 1991 he received the Knight's Cross of the Icelandic Order of Falcons for his services to the Icelandic-German cultural exchange .

Schiffer translates Icelandic literature, is the author of novels, short stories , poems , plays and radio plays and lives in Cologne.
He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
