Paul Badde (born March 10, 1948 in Schaag ) is a German non-fiction author , journalist and filmmaker .

Journalistic activity

After attending a humanistic grammar school, Paul Badde studied philosophy and sociology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the University of Frankfurt am Main, art history, history and politics. Between the first and second state exams, from March 1979 he was editor and head of department at the satirical magazine pardon , which included a three-year school service as a teacher at the Schiller School in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen and freelance work for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , ZEIT , WELT and the New Zürcher Zeitung joined. Since February 1988 he has been a reporter and editor for the FAZ magazine based in Munich. From 2000 to 2013 he worked as a correspondent for the daily newspaper Die WELT , first in Jerusalem , then in Rome and at the Vatican .

Badde has been co-editor of the monthly Vatican Magazin since the beginning of 2007 . Since 2008 he has been the chairman of the Fatima Action , the main objective of which is to spread the message of Fátima and support projects and others. a. for persecuted Christians and children in South America. He is also an employee of the news agency CNA Deutsch and, since 2013, has also been the author and correspondent of the television station EWTN Germany .

Badde has dealt with the Manoppello veil in several publications . The art historian Erwin Pokorny criticized the statements of Badde, who is convinced that the cloth was created supernaturally. Pokorny accuses Badde of having "distorted" the report by Guilio Fanti (University of Padua) on microscopic examinations and claims that the veil shows "no traces of color". According to Pokorny, Badde in particular also makes the incorrect claim that the fabric of the veil is made of shell silk. Pokorny also refutes this claim: Shell silk is made up of relatively thick fibers. The fibers of the veil of Manoppello are thinner than all fibers made of real shell silk ever measured. One must therefore assume that the fabric of the veil consists of linen or flax fibers.
