Vatican Magazin - own spelling VATICAN magazin - is a German-speaking, independent, Catholic culture and news magazine from Rome . The monthly magazine emerged from the English-language Inside the Vatican magazine . The magazine bears the subtitle "Beauty and Drama of the Universal Church".
Content
The Vatican Magazine reports on the Pope and the universal Church . The authors take up key topics on current church developments and examine them critically in a journalistic way. It also covers topics of culture, sacred art and architecture and reports on how faith inspired artists in a long Christian tradition. In addition, photo essays, interviews, analyzes, theological, philosophical and sociological essays provide insights into the life of the Church and into the world of Christians on other continents.
According to its own statements, the magazine allows itself the gospel , the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church , the biographies of the saints and tradition as the basis of its work as the only lines . However, it is not an “Official Journal” of the Vatican , but a church-independent magazine. The church policy line is generally conservative; for example, the magazine was described by the official ecclesiastical online portal kathisch.de as the “crystallization point of the conservative, pope-loyal counter-public of the German tongue”.
Edition
The magazine appears 10 times a year (two double issues in summer) by Fe-Medienverlag in Kißlegg, Swabia . The total print run is 5600 copies (as of May 2012) and can be found nationwide as a subscription or at kiosks and in magazine stores. It appears in Germany , Austria , Luxembourg and Switzerland .
history
The Vatican Magazine originally started as the German edition of Inside the Vatican . But Inside the Vatican was no longer able to guarantee the necessary working conditions for the German-language editorial team. Since then, since the end of 2006, the magazine has been independently managed and based on its own responsibility by the German editorial staff in Via delle Mura Aurelie in Rome , not far from the Apostolic Palace . It was first published on June 18, 2007 by Fe-Medienverlag. The task of honorary editors is Paul Badde , correspondent for Die Welt in Italy , and Norbert Neuhaus, most recently general secretary of the aid organization Church in Need . The editor-in-chief are Guido Horst (content), who is also the Roman correspondent for the Catholic daily newspaper Die Tagespost , and Natalie Nordio (coordination).
