Ulrich Greiner (born September 19, 1945 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German journalist and literary critic .

Live and act

Ulrich Greiner studied German , philosophy and political science at the universities in Frankfurt am Main and Tübingen after graduating from Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main . After his state examination for teachers at secondary schools he was from 1970 to 1980 feuilleton editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), in 1974 in the literary department of the FAZ. In 1980 Greiner switched to the features section of the time . From 1986 to 1995 he was head of the features section of Die Zeit , and from 1998 to March 2009 he was the editor in charge of the Literature in Die Zeit section . Since then he has been a cultural reporter and editor of ZeitLiteratur magazine .

Greiner taught as a visiting professor in Hamburg , Essen , St. Louis and in 2005 in Göttingen . He is a member of the PEN Center Germany and since 2005 of the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg , of which he has also been President since 2011. In 2008 and 2009 Greiner chaired the jury for the award of the Leipzig Book Fair . He is a guest author of the Axis of Good .
