Willibert Pauels (born November 19, 1954 in Wipperfürth ) is a hand-made speaker in the Cologne carnival ("Ne Bergische Jung"), singer, guitarist and Catholic deacon .

biography

Pauels grew up with three sisters in a Catholic family in Wipperfürth ; his father was a primary school teacher. After graduating from Engelbert-von-Berg-Gymnasium in 1973 , Pauels studied Catholic theology in Bonn and Münster , initially with the aim of becoming a priest . He worked in a sawmill, in the Collegium Marianum , during this time completed his training as a recreational pedagogue and, after appropriate preparation, was ordained a Catholic deacon in 1993 . Until November 2006 he worked full-time as such in various parishes. In 2006 he donated two brotherhood staffs to the St. Clemens Church in Wipperfeld.

Private

In private surroundings, for example at school and with friends, he was noticed early on for his humorous, parodic and acting talent. In 1975 he appeared for the first time at a carnival session (Kajuja) in his hometown, and in the following years regularly in the regional carnival. Dieter Steudter (The 3 Colonias) discovered him in 1995 for the Cologne Carnival ; In 1996 he stood there for the first time in the Bütt and soon became one of the better-known Cologne carnivalists. Since 2009 he has been a regular columnist for the Bergischer Boten and at times for the Kölner Express . He can be heard regularly on Cologne Cathedral Radio with the “Word for Saturday” and occasionally also takes on short contributions on WDR radio. Pauels lives with his wife and daughter in Wipperfürth-Hamböcken .

On February 22, 2013, Pauels announced in the WDR television program Kölner Treff with Bettina Böttinger that he had been suffering from depression for years . He says he has this under control through medical help with medication and after treatment in a clinic. In 2015 he published the book If you lose your laughing about it .
