history

First mention

middle Ages

In the Middle Ages the place belonged to the Steinbach (Lindlar) office. In a document dated September 6, 1363, it is noted: "Item de Wipperfelde, Bechen, Curten, Oylpe, Lyntlan, Ouerroide, Engelskirchen, Keppel et parochia de Wippervuerde in officio de Steynbech".

The place belonged to the district of the Hohekeppler regional court to Lindlar . For the years 1653 to 1656 a large trial of the Wipperfelder against the lieutenant colonel Johann von Mosbach called Breidenbach zur Müllen and the Junker Jobst von Hammerstein zu Honrath for the hunting rights in Wipperfeld is documented. Witnesses were interrogated by Scheffen from Dabringhausen and Lennep in the Lamsfuß court near Wipperfeld.

The origins of the Catholic parish church are likely to date back to the 12th century, the current building dates from 1892 and was consecrated in 1894.

Modern times

A grain mill was operated in Wipperfeld until the 19th century. Such is the case in the statistics “of the Bergisches Land from 1797”.

1890 Wipper Fields citizens Mausbach becomes the mayor of the municipality of Lindlar selected.

In the course of the local reorganization , large parts of the previously independent municipality of Wipperfeld were merged with the old town of Wipperfürth and essential parts of the former municipality of Klüppelberg to form the new town of Wipperfürth with effect from January 1, 1975 (Section 12 (1) Cologne Act ); smaller parts of the area were incorporated into the municipality of Kürten (Section 11, Paragraph 2, No. 4 of the Cologne Act).

St. Clement's Church

The tower of the 12th century church still stood until the 19th century; it was demolished in 1892–94. Remnants of the older previous building are now placed on the south side of the new church, built between 1892 and 1894. The plans for the new building of the church come from the architect Heinrich Wiethase . Neo-Romanesque furnishings, the inventory also includes a Romanesque holy water bucket (12th century), baroque brotherhood bars (end of 18th century) and several sculptures from the 19th century. The historical organ from the Weyland company, originally from Opladen, was purchased in 1999. To the south of the church there is an old cemetery with almost 40 tombstones, the oldest grave cross is dated 1541.
