Obergaul is a village in the municipality of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is located in the southeast of the city of Wipperfürth on the city limits to Marienheide . The Gaulbach flows past the southern border of the town . Neighboring towns are Nagelsgaul , Hollmünde , Mittelweg and Schnipperingen .

The place belongs to the municipal electoral district 142 and thus to the district Dohrgaul .

history

Around 1443 the place is mentioned for the first time under the name "Gaul" in an income and rights list of the Cologne Apostelstift. In 1590 Friedrich von der Mark and Caterina born from the house of the Bergisch captain Friedrich von Katterbach their seat Obergaul. 1784 and 1807 are in border protocols of the Nagel'schen hunting district as witnesses u. a. Johann. P. Börsch, Christ. Börsch from Dellweg and head Georg Börsch are involved. Much more news up to our time can be found in the literature.

The topographical photograph of the Rhineland from 1825 shows six separate floor plans in a delimited courtyard under the name “Obergoll” . In the Prussian first recording from 1840 the place name is “Ob. Horse " .
