Speckenbach is a village in Wipperfürth in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The village is located in the east of Wipperfürth, west of the Kerspe dam on the city limits of Halver . Neighboring towns are Kleinfastenrath , Dahl , Voswinkel and Großfastenrath . The Speckenbach, which flows into the Wupper River, has its source in the village .

Politically, the place is represented by the direct candidate from constituency 13 (130) Ohl and Klaswipper in the council of the city of Wipperfürth.

history

In 1487 the place is listed for the first time under the name "Speckbech" in a loan list for Duke Wilhelm III von Berg . The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows four farms under the name "Speckenbach" . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 shows five individual building floor plans in the village of “Spekenbek” . From the Prussian first recording from 1840 to 1843 the place name "Speckenbach" is used.

There is evidence of a Landwehr line running from Wuppertal-Elberfeld to Marienheide-Krommenohl in the east of the village. This Bergische Landwehr secured the Bergisches Territory from incursions from the Märkische.
