Egerpohl is a village in the municipality of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is in the east of the city of Wipperfürth on the federal highway 237 in the valley of the river Wupper . The place is divided into three separate settlement areas. The Langensiefen , Haufer Bach and Hammergraben Egerpohl rivers run into the Wupper . The Hammergraben is diverted from the Wupper near Ibach and flows back into the Wupper at the level of the neighboring town of Niederwipper . Neighboring towns are Niederwipper, Haufe , Böswipper , Neuensturmberg and Küppersherweg .

Politically, Egerpohl is represented in the council of the city of Wipperfürth by the direct candidate from electoral district 12.2 (122) Niederwipper.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1548. A "Johan van dem Egerpoule" is named in a pension register of the Catholic parish Wipperfürth. The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows two farms on the site of Egerpohl. The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 shows four floor plans and a mill symbol on three enclosed courtyards. The spelling of the place name is here "Egerpol" . In the Prussian first recording from 1840 to 1844 the place name is "Aegerpohl" and the mill is marked as an iron hammer.

With the expansion of the railway line via Wipperfürth to Marienheide in 1902, Egerpohl received a stop on the Wippertal Railway . The Egerpohl stop was in the southern district. In 1982 the breakpoint was given up. Freight and passenger traffic in Egerpohl ended when rail operations on the Wipperfürth Ost and Marienheide section were discontinued in 1985.

A footfall from Grauwacke dates from 1976 . A grotto is carved into the stone, which houses a Madonna.

Hiking trails

The route of the railway line formerly leading through Egerpohl has been expanded into a cycle path. The entire route bears the name "Alleenradweg Bergisch Born - Marienheide".
