Erlen is a village in the Wipperfeld district of the city of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ). In addition to this alder, there are also the villages of the same name in Wipperfürth, Erlen in the Kreuzberg district and Erlen in the Wipperfürth district .

Location and description

The place is located in the southwest of the city of Wipperfürth on the federal highway 506 , which was an important military route between Cologne and Dortmund in the Middle Ages . The place lies on the watershed between the Große Dhünn and the Kürtener Sülz . Neighboring places are Wipperfeld , Unterholl , Obermausbach , Untermausbach , Oberschneppen and Fahlenbock .

history

In the Prussian first recording from 1840, at the place of the village Erlen, a delimited courtyard without any names is drawn. The place name Erlen is used from the topographic map ( Prussian New Admission ) from 1893 to 1896.

A sandstone crossroads in the local area dates from 1855 . Outside the village, on the way to Wipperfeld, there is a wayside shrine erected in 1954 by the Virgin Mary with a stone cross above it.
