history

At the Leiersmühle there was a Wupper ford , which was used by a medieval old road from Cologne to Dortmund.

On the Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 there is a “w. mühl ” . The map topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 shows under the place name "Leiers M" on two enclosed courtyards five separate building plans and a mill symbol. For the year 1824 there is evidence that the mill was an oil mill. In that year the mill was sold and a cloth factory was built at the mill. Cloth and yarn were produced here by changing owners until around 1931.

The entrepreneur Hermann Voss acquired the production facilities around the mill. He built a factory for domestic water fittings. In 1953, his son, Hans Hermann Voss , switched production to pipe connections for machine and vehicle construction.

From 1910 to 1960 the railway line fromschlag to Wipperfürth passed in the north of the village. This railway line branched off from the Wippertalbahn at Wipperfürth station and connected to the Wuppertalbahn when it stopped . The Wipperfürth - Marienheide section of the Wippertal Railway ran from 1905 to 1986 in the south of Leiersmühle . There was a connection to rail traffic via the Wipperfürth-Ost stop in the west of Leiersmühlke.

In 1913, the Leiersmühle compensation pond was created by the Wupper Dam Cooperative .

The name change from Wipper to Wupper took place at the Leiersmühle for a long time. Only recently did this place move upstream to the mouth of the Kerspes near Ohl .

bus connections

There is a connection to local public transport via the Leiersmühle bus stop in the village for lines 336 and 338 (VRS / OVAG) and line 55 (VRL / MVG).
