Egen is a district and one of the seven church villages of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ) within the administrative district of Cologne .
Location and description
Egen is not far from the Bevertalsperre on the watershed between the Bever and Lüttgenau streams , which each feed a branch of the Bevertalsperre. A source brook of the Lüttgenau brook, the Egenbach , rises not far from the village.
Egen can be reached from all directions through a network of small access roads. The place is the highest point in the area.
history
First mention
In 1548 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document as op dem Eigen , namely "Jorgen op dem Eigen is listed in the lists of the Bergische Spann- und Schüppendienste."
In 1871 Egen was raised to an independent parish , as documented by Archbishop Paulus Melchers' parish census certificate . In the course of the reorganization of the parishes in the deanery and pastoral care area Wipperfürth, the parish was abolished by a document from Archbishop Joachim Cardinal Meisner on December 31, 2007 and assigned to the parish of St. Nikolaus in Wipperfürth on January 1, 2008.
Attractions
The Catholic Church Immaculate Conception was built around 1850 on the initiative of the citizens of Egen . The cemetery is a little outside the town center.
