Großscherkenbach is a village in the municipality of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is southeast of the city of Wipperfürth. The village belongs to the district Agathaberg. A tributary of the Gaulbach rises on the northern edge of the village . Neighboring towns are Kleinscherkenbach , Agathaberg and Nagelsbüchel .

Politically, Großscherkenbach is represented in the council of the city of Wipperfürth by the direct candidate from electoral district 14.1 (141) Agathaberg.

history

In 1413 the place is mentioned for the first time under the name "Scherkenbach" in accounts of the excise lifting of the Bergische Ämter. The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows two farms at the site of Großscherkenbach and names them "Scherckenbeck" . The topographical recording of the Rhineland from 1825 shows on a delimited courtyard under the name “Gr. Scherkenbek “ five floor plans. From the topographic map from 1894 to 1896, the place name in common use today, Großscherkenbach, is used.

A sandstone footfall erected between 1919 and 1920 is in place.
