In 1466 the place was first mentioned in church accounts of the Catholic parish of St. Nikolaus in Wipperfürth under the name Hermersberch . The map topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 shows the lettering Hermann B. , but without an enclosed courtyard. From the topographic map of the years 1894 to 1896, bounded areas are shown with individual floor plans, but without place names. Only with the topographical map from 1955 does the place name Hermesberg appear.
