Biesenbach - Dörpinghausen - Engsfeld - Erlen - Forste - Hackenberg - Halkenberg - Hammer - Hinterwurth - Hohl - Hönnige - Hungerberg - Kupferberg - Neuenhaus - Niederengsfeld - Niederscheveling - Oberscheveling - Ritterlöh - Rote Höhe - Schleise - Vorderwurth - Wasserfuhr

history

The name comes from the first chapel built there, which was named "Mons-Calvariae" (Zum Creutzberg). Kreuzberg lies on a ridge about 350 meters high between the upper Neyetal and the Hönnigetal. The villages of Wasserfuhr and Kupferberg belong to Kreuzberg. For 180 years, copper ore was extracted from the Danielszug mine in Kupferberg until the end of the Second World War. The settlement owes its name to this fact. Together with the village of Kupferberg, Kreuzberg is the largest village in Wipperfürth in terms of population (around 2,300 inhabitants). In the north and east of Kreuzberg runs the city limits, which are both district and government borders and the border between the Rhineland and Westphalia.

Part of the village structure are the primary school with gym and sports field as well as a church-run kindergarten. There is also a village square, the memorial for the fallen and missing of the two world wars and the former Convent of Our Lady from 1926, which looks like a large villa. In the last few decades many well-kept one and two-family houses have been built in Kreuzberg, but also in the districts of Kupferberg and Rote Höhe. In addition, a Protestant church was built in Kupferberg in 1964. In 2014 Kreuzberg was crowned Golddorf, the village with a bright future.

Church of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist

In 1690 , Kreuzberg was founded as a missionary by a canon of Cologne Cathedral named Mering . The administration was carried out by the Franciscans , who were based in Wipperfürth. The Catholic parish church "St. John the Apostle and Evangelist" was first built from 1723 to 1730 and in 1853 elevated to a parish church. The building was demolished in 1869 and a new building was erected between 1867 and 1869 according to plans by Vincenz Statz . An extensive restoration took place in 1978. The bones of the Three Kings stayed twice for one night in Kreuzberg: in 1794 when they were brought to safety from the advancing French and in 1803 when they were brought back to Cologne. In the church there is an organ by Heinz Wilbrand from Übach-Palenberg; it was installed in 1997. The inventory includes u. a. a neo-Gothic high altar from 1869 and a confessional, a sun monstrance dated 1836 and a chalice by the Cologne goldsmith Leo Moldrickx . A crucifixion group from 1730 is significant in terms of art history; it is likely the work of the Cologne-based sculptor van Helmont . Only the small statuettes of the evangelists and the figure of Jesus have survived from the formerly existing neo-Gothic pulpit. The large number of sculptures in the church and the sacristy is remarkable. A stone inscription plaque and a coat of arms relief come from the old previous church.
