Lieth is a village in the municipality of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is in the southwest of the city of Wipperfürth near the federal highway 506 , which was an important military route between Cologne and Dortmund in the Middle Ages . The place is on the watershed between the Große Dhünn and the Kürtener Sülz . The source of the Liethsiefen , which flows into the Mausbach , is located in the southeast of the village . Neighboring places are Mittelschneppen , Pannenhöh and Neumühle .

The place belongs to the municipal electoral district 160 and thus to the electoral district Wipperfeld .

history

In 1360 the place was first mentioned under the name "Leten" in a document as "Rector of the Church in Opladen" . The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows the village under the name "Lied" with a courtyard. The topographical recording of the Rhineland from 1824 shows three separate floor plans on a delimited courtyard under the name “Liech” . From the topographic maps from 1893 to 1896, the place name is Lieth.
