Gardeweg is a village in Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The village, divided into three settlement areas, is located in the north of Wipperfürth on the watershed between the Neyetalsperre and the Bevertalsperre . Neighboring places are Beinghausen , Vossebrechen , Forste , Obernien and Platzweg . In the west of the village lie the sources of Gardeweger Siepen and Brakensiepen , both of which flow into the Lüttgenau. The Gardewegermühlenbach, which flows into the Neye II, rises in the settlement area of Gardeweg to the east.

Politically, the place is represented by the direct candidate from electoral district 17.2 (172) Egen in the council of the city of Wipperfürth.

history

The Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 shows two courtyards and names them “Gardenweg” . In the map of the Topographical Survey of the Rhineland from 1825, the name “Gardeweg” , which is common today, is used.

The K13 district road leading through Gardeweg had its origins in prehistoric times (Neolithic Age), albeit only as a “trampling path and ancient path”. In the Saxon-Franconian period from the 7th century onwards, it gained importance in long-distance traffic, which was only reduced to regional importance in the 18th century.

There is evidence of a Landwehr line running from Wuppertal-Elberfeld to Marienheide-Krommenohl in the south of the village. This Bergische Landwehr secured the Bergisches Territory from incursions from the Märkische.

bus connections

There is a connection to local public transport via the Gardeweg bus stop on line 337 (VRS / OVAG).

Hiking trails

The circular hiking trail A5 signposted by SGV and the main hiking trail X7 Residenzenweg lead through the Hofschaft.
