Leuchtenbirken is a village of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is in the east of Wipperfürth on a ridge between the Wupper and the Hönnige brook . Neighboring towns are the Wipperfürth district of Leiersmühle , Vosskuhle , Harhausen , Neuenhaus and Niederwipper . The Leuchtenbirker Bach flows into the Wupper in the northeast .

Politically, the village is represented by the direct candidate from electoral district 03 (030) northeastern urban area in the council of the city of Wipperfürth.

history

In 1378 the place was first mentioned under the name "Bircken" . Documents in the parish archives of St. Nikolaus Wipperfürth show that a "Godescalus de Bircken" was one of the provisional members of the Wipperfürth parish church.

On the Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715, “Bircken” consists of three courtyards. The map topographical recording of the Rhineland from 1825 shows seven separate floor plans of buildings under the place name "Birken" on a delimited courtyard. The Prussian first recording from 1840 to 1844 names the village “Lichtenhus Birken” . From the topographic map from 1894 to 1896, the name is Leuchtenbirken.

From 1910 to 1960 the railway line fromschlag to Wipperfürth passed north of the Hofschaft. It branched off from the Wippertalbahn at Wipperfürth station and connected to the Wuppertalbahn when it stopped .
