James Borwick, 5th Baron Borwick
Geoffrey Robert James "Jamie" Borwick, 5th Baron Borwick (born March 7, 1955 ) is a British entrepreneur , manager and politician . He is the owner and chairman of the electric delivery truck manufacturer Modec in Coventry .
Life
Borwick, who received his education at Eton College , was chief executive from 1987 to 2001 and then chairman until 2003 of the British holding company Manganese Bronze Holdings plc , in which he also held the largest block of shares. The best-known subsidiary of Manganese Bronze is London Taxis International (LTI), a manufacturer of several series of black London taxis. At London Taxis International, where he was also Chairman, there were two test projects for the construction of electric vehicles in collaboration with Azure Dynamics , a “London black taxi” and an eMercury van project . LTI decided to focus on the production of taxis. After a failed attempt to take over the company entirely, Jamie Borwick resigned as chairman and eventually sold his family's stake to institutional investors. Instead, he founded the Modec company in Coventry in 2004 as a manufacturer of small vans with electric drives. The company started production of the self-developed vehicles in 2007. In 2011 Modec, which was in debt of around £ 40 million, had to file for bankruptcy and was wound up.
politics
After Borwick inherited the title of 5th Baron Borwick, of Hawkshead in the County of Lancaster in 2007 from his uncle, James Hugh Myles Borwick, 4th Baron Borwick , who had no male successor , he became a hereditary noble on July 17, 2013 (Hereditary Peer) elected to the House of Lords . He succeeded Hugh Mackay there.
