Großfastenrath is a village in Wipperfürth in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

The village lies in the east of Wipperfurth, 300 meters to the dam of Kerspe dam on the outskirts of Kierspe . Neighboring towns are Im Hagen , Kleinfastenrath , Speckenbach , and Kerspe . The Großfastenrather Bach and the Großfastentather Siepen have their source in the village .

Politically, the village is represented by the direct candidate from electoral district 13 (130) Ohl and Klaswipper in the council of the city of Wipperfürth.

history

1445 "Vastenroede" is mentioned in the church accounts of the Catholic parish of Sankt Nikolaus Wipperfürth. The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows under the name “gr. Fastenrod “ three courtyards. The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 shows in the locality “Gr. Fastenrath “ seven individual building floor plans.

There is evidence of a Landwehr line running from Wuppertal-Elberfeld to Marienheide-Krommenohl in the north and south-west of the town. This Bergische Landwehr secured the Bergisches Territory from incursions from the Märkische.
