Parish administrator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A parish administrator , also known as a parish provisional , is a priest in the canon law of the Latin Church who is entrusted with the temporary management of a parish as an administrator . He represents the pastor if the pastor is prevented from performing his duties or if the pastor's position is vacant, and is appointed by the local ordinary ( can. 539 CIC ).

According to can. 522 CIC a pastor must have "constancy in office and must therefore be appointed for an unlimited period", while a parish administrator is only given the duties of a pastor on a temporary basis. Unless otherwise stated, he has the same rights and duties as a pastor ( can. 540 §1 CIC ). He is forbidden from all acts that could impair the pastor's rights or damage the parish property ( can. 540 §2 CIC ).
