Michael Hesemann

Michael Hesemann (born March 22, 1964 in Düsseldorf ) is a German historian , author (formerly also on para-scientific topics), documentary filmmaker and specialist journalist for contemporary and church history topics. Hesemann first became known around 1990 through publications on UFOs and extraterrestrial "visitors", then, since 1997, as the author of books on Christian topics .

Life

Hesemann spent his childhood and youth in Neuss , where he graduated from the Alexander von Humboldt Gymnasium in 1983. He studied history, cultural anthropology, literature and journalism at the University of Göttingen .

Today he lives in Düsseldorf and Rome, where he does research in Vatican archives. His 45 books have appeared in 14 languages. Since 2008, Hesemann has been on the advisory board of the American Pave the Way Foundation , which advocates reconciliation between Jews and Catholics. In addition, he is a consultant for church history topics for the educational institutions of several Catholic dioceses and archbishoprics and lecturer at the conservative Catholic Gustav Siewerth Academy . Hesemann appears on Catholic TV channels such as K-TV and EWTN . In 2010, he described himself as one of the first supporters of the Germany pro Papa initiative , which wanted to “strengthen the original Catholic base” and “stand up for the previously silent majority of Catholics loyal to Rome”.

Publications

During his studies, Hesemann dealt with modern sagas . He became known for his publications on various topics in frontier sciences, including prophecies , UFO research, crop circles . From 1984 to 2000 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine Magazin 2000 , which was devoted to paranormal topics. During this time, videos with titles such as "UFOs - the evidence" and numerous books on the subject were created. Hesemann gave lectures and invited to conferences on extraterrestrial phenomena, including with Ingrid Schlotterbeck to the "UFO World Conference" in 1995 in Düsseldorf, where he presented alleged video evidence of the so-called Alien Autopsy (the autopsy of an extraterrestrial who in 1947 with a UFO crashed at Roswell ). He later denied being a "ufologist" and constructed a connection between God and extraterrestrials:

“But God, the creator of the universe, was not an alien. But why should God in his omnipotence have created only one inhabited planet, only one human race in this vast universe? For me, assuming that God has this lack of creativity borders on blasphemy. "

In 1998 he examined the alleged relic of Jesus' inscription on the cross , which is venerated in the Roman basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme . In the archives of the German national church Santa Maria dell'Anima in Rome, Hesemann came across a document that proves that the deportation of the Roman Jews by the SS on October 16, 1943 was due to the intervention of Pope Pius XII. stopped down; the approximately 7,000 rescued Jews were then hidden in Roman monasteries and in institutions of the Vatican. In the Vatican Secret Archives , Hesemann came across evidence of an early connection between the future Pope and Zionism and showed that in the weeks following the November pogroms in 1938 , the Vatican tried in vain to obtain visas for 200,000 German Jews in order to enable them to travel to South America.

In other publications such as The First Pope or Jesus of Nazareth , Hesemann devoted himself to archaeological discoveries and examined, among other things, the Byzantine bathhouse in Nazareth , the ruins of Khirbet Kana and took part in the excavations of Magdala . In 2011, Georg Ratzinger's memoirs, My Brother, the Pope , were published and recorded by Hesemann. The book has been translated into 12 languages. With Arturo Mari , the personal photographer of Pope John Paul II , he wrote the biography John Paul II. Legacy and Charisma . In 2013, Hesemann put together an exhibition on the Turin shroud for the Malteser Aid Service . In 2015, Hesemann published Genocide against the Armenians on the topic of the same name , with documents from the Vatican archives from the time of the First World War .
