EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) is the world's largest religious television broadcaster and is headquartered in Irondale near Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. In terms of content, it is based on the teaching post of the Catholic Church . With its regionally different programs, EWTN reaches more than 200 million households in 140 countries. It is broadcast in English, Spanish, German and French.

history

The station was founded on August 15, 1981 by Mother Angelica , a Poor Clare from the Order of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration , who started the station in the garage of her monastery in Birmingham (Alabama) and with a starting capital of 200 dollars. A shortwave radio program followed in 1992 and an offer of online services since 1996. In 1999 program branches followed in South America and Europe. On October 4th, 2009, Mother Angelica was honored by Pope Benedict XVI for her special services to the Catholic Church . awarded the Order Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (“For the Church and the Pope”). On Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, Mother Angelica died in her monastery at the age of 92.

In the US election campaign, Donald Trump was able to present his main views on abortion and gay marriage in 15 minutes of airtime, and is said to have defamed Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. This was seen to be the main reason most US Catholics voted in his favor.

program

EWTN produces over 70% of its programs itself; it is financed exclusively through donations. The program consists of Christian education and life support, talk shows, documentaries and feature films, programs for children and young people, the daily broadcast of a Holy Mass , news and live broadcasts from the Vatican and from the Pope's apostolic trips . The news magazine VATICANO is broadcast from Rome every week.
