Xokonoschtletl Gomora (born February 17, 1951 in Mexico under the name Antonio Gómora ) is a Mexican dancer, activist , neo- shaman and leader of a Mexican indigenous movement that feels part of the Aztecs . His goal is that the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna preserved pre-Columbian Montezuma's headdress ( span . Penacho return) to Mexico.

Meaning of the name

The name Xokonoschtletl [ ʃokoˈnost͡ʃt͡ɬet͡ɬ ] is a composition that approximates the German spelling. The name is explained by its bearer as follows: ( Nahuatl : Xoko = "sour", "bitter", Nosch (from "Noschtli") = " prickly pear ", Tletl = "fire") literally means "sour / bitter and fiery prickly pear ". In a figurative sense, the name, based on the deep roots of the prickly pear, should say: "The one who has very deep roots and can thus feed and survive". The lexically documented elements are in the standardized orthography: xocotl , Jocote ( Spondias myrobalanus ), often in compositions: sour, nōchtli , fruit of Opuntia ficus-indica and tletl , fire. According to the word formation rules of the Náhuatl, the translation would be rather: sour prickly pear fire.

Field of activity

Gomora started out as a tour guide and became an Indian activist. He established a wide support scene in Central Europe and wrote numerous books. He is the founder of the Cultural Association for International Understanding Yankuik Anahuak International and was spokesman for the World Council of Indigenous Peoples ( World Council of Indigenous Peoples ).

He feels that he belongs to the Aztec people and has made it his life's work to bring back to Mexico a museum item that he describes as the sacred feather crown of the ninth Aztec emperor, Motekuhzomatzin Xokoyotzin (also called Montezuma or Moctezuma ), which is currently in Museum of Ethnology is located in Vienna. In his opinion, this crown is of the highest spiritual and ideal importance for the Mexican natives. She is the symbol for the return of the spirit of her Lord Montezuma, nature, peace, harmony, duality, wisdom and spiritual power. Scientists deny that the feather headdress can be traced back to the Aztec ruler.
