Gerald Goesche (born December 22, 1960 ) is a priest of the Roman Catholic Church and provost of the traditionalist institute St. Philipp Neri in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen .

Gerald Goesche grew up in Aachen and attended the Bischöfliche Pius-Gymnasium there until 1980 . He studied theology in Bonn , Paris and Rome and did his doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome under Heinrich Pfeiffer on the Jesuit and art historian Stephan Beissel . In 1986 Goesche was ordained a priest in the diocese of Aachen and, after completing his doctoral studies, was the parish administrator of Blindenmarkt in the Austrian diocese of St. Pölten for two years , where he procured a motherhouse for the Congregation of the Servants of Jesus and Mary .

Goesche left Blindenmarkt because of differences with the parish council , which supported the church people's request . He turned to the priestly brotherhood of St. Pius X, which was not in full association with Rome, and worked for six years as a priest of the St. Peter Chapel on Mehringdamm in Berlin-Kreuzberg . During this time he was in charge of the new St. Petrus church on Breitenbachplatz . Goesche did not belong to the Pius Brotherhood, but was released as a diocesan priest of the diocese of Aachen for this time.

In 2003 he founded an oratorio with two candidates for priesthood and two deacons to maintain the extraordinary form of Holy Mass . This oratorio exists in full communion with Rome. When the papal commission Ecclesia Dei established it as a society of apostolic life in May 2004, Dario Cardinal Castrillon confirmed Hoyos Goesche as head ( provost ) of the St. Philipp Neri Institute in the Berlin district of Gesundbrunnen .

In April 2020, he sued the Berlin Administrative Court against the ban on celebrating public services in Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic , and requested permission for trade fairs with up to 50 participants. The German Bishops' Conference initially distanced itself from the complaint. This was rejected on April 7, 2020, the Higher Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg confirmed the ban on gatherings on April 9, 2020 , pointing out the high risk of further infections by the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen . On April 10, 2020, the Federal Constitutional Court generally confirmed the ban on assembly, stating that the protection of life and limb takes precedence over freedom of belief , even if it is severely interfered with. On April 15, 2020, however, the chairman of the German Bishops' Conference , Bishop Georg Bätzing , criticized the maintenance of the ban on public church services despite the violation of fundamental rights determined by the court . During the ban on public worship services in Berlin, Goesche donated sacraments as part of non-public "house worship services" in compliance with security measures, including communion in the mouth , during which he disinfected his fingers before giving communion . Official controls that did not detect any violations of the SARS-CoV-2 containment measures ordinance were described by Goesches as a result of "denunciation" to the press. Goesche told the press that when celebrating Holy Mass , a “residual risk” that he was taking could not be ruled out.
