St. Peter

St. Peter's is a parish church of the Society of St. Pius X . It is located on Dillenburger Strasse in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf . In its external appearance, the east-facing church building is based on the eclectic - historicizing design language.

History of church building

The St. Peter Church is owned by the Society of St. Pius X. This celebrates the liturgy in the extraordinary form of the Roman rite .

In 1978 a community was founded in Berlin. As the number of believers grew, so did the need for their own church, which was built between 2002 and 2005. Until the Petruskirche was completed, a former officers' mess on Mehringdamm served as a place of worship.

Since the Pius Brotherhood does not have a state-recognized status as a corporation under public law , it does not receive any income from church taxes . Therefore, the church was financed exclusively through donations and loans from the faithful.

After a building plot for a new church was given to the priesthood near Breitenbachplatz , construction of the church began in 2002 under the direction of the architect Hermann Feller and was completed in 2005 by the architect Michael Kaune. After the debt was paid off, the Church was consecrated on May 25, 2013 by the Superior General of the Pius Brotherhood, Bernard Fellay .

High altar

Most of the furnishings were bought from the holdings of former churches, about a four-meter-wide high altar from 1754, which comes from a former Jesuit church in Brussels.

The four - bay, barrel - vaulted nave is decorated with wall and ceiling paintings in Renaissance forms by the church painter Ralf Lürig . There is a gallery above the side aisle , which merges into the organ gallery above the entrance area.

A step leads from the central aisle to the communion benches . In front of the apse there is a canopy framed by columns. The arch of the apse bears the inscription Dignus est Agnus qui occisus est [accipere virtutem, et divinitatem, et sapientiam, et fortitudinem, et honorem] (“Worthy is the lamb that is slain [power to received, riches and wisdom, strength and honor, praise and glory] ”), from Rev 5,12  EU .

Keates organ

The pipe organ, created around 1900 by the English organ builder Albert Keates , with 16 sounding stops and 816 pipes , divided into two manuals and a pedal , was acquired by the St. Petrus Priory in 2005. It came from an abandoned church in England and was restored by the Ziegltrum organ building workshop from Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg (Lower Bavaria). The winch was retrofitted with an electric fan . The organ was installed in February 2009 and inaugurated in March 2009.
