story

In the Middle Ages and early modern times, Groß- and Kleinblittersdorf were just two parts of the Lorraine town of Bliederstorff, which was first mentioned in a document in 777 as the property of Abbot Fulrad of St. Denis . The place names were Blit (t) haria villa in the early Middle Ages and Bliederstroff and Bliderstorff in the 13th century . The prefixes Groß- and Klein- for the two districts first appeared at the end of the 16th century: Grossblietersdorff (1594), Blidertorf-le-Grand (1756), Blidestroff-le-Gros (1779), they were only an indicator for the different number of inhabitants. Today the situation has been reversed: In 2006 Kleinblittersdorf, which had grown in area due to a local reform, had 12,850 inhabitants, while Grosbliederstroff only had 3330 (1999), of whom about a fifth are German citizens.

Kleinblittersdorf came with Lorraine in 1766 to France and through an exchange of territory in 1781 in the possession of the Counts von der Leyen . After the advancing revolutionary troops had driven out the old feudal lords from 1792 , both parts belonged to the French department of the Saar . After the Napoleonic Wars , the history of the two places Klein- and Großblittersdorf was again separate. Kleinblittersdorf was now part of the Prussian Rhine Province , which was recognized by France in the border convention between Prussia and France on June 11, 1827. After the Franco-Prussian War , Großblittersdorf also came to the German Empire from 1871 with the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . From 1919 Großblittersdorf was again a municipality in France, while Kleinblittersdorf was in the French-controlled Saar area administered by the League of Nations as a result of the Versailles Treaty and came to the German Reich from 1935 after the Saar referendum . From 1940 to the end of the Second World War, it was again jointly under German rule, followed by a period again until 1956 - as it had been from 1919 to 1935 - in which both towns were under French influence: Großblittersdorf - now renamed Grosbliederstroff - as a municipality in the department Moselle , Kleinblittersdorf in the semi-autonomous Saarland , the result of another plebiscite in 1955, due to the Saar Treaty on 1 January 1957 as the tenth state in the Federal Republic of Germany was incorporated.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1974, the previously independent communities Auersmacher, Bliesransbach, Rilchingen-Hanweiler and Sitterswald were incorporated.
