Auersmacher is a district and a district of the Saarland community of Kleinblittersdorf in the Saarbrücken regional association . Until the end of 1973 Auersmacher was an independent municipality.

history

Auersmacher was first mentioned in a document under the name Aurica Machera in 777 as the property of the abbot Fulrad of St. Denis .

Auersmacher originally belonged to the Duchy of Lorraine and with this came to the Kingdom of France in 1766 . In 1781 there was an exchange of territory, in which Auersmacher switched to the rule Blieskastel , which was owned by the Counts von der Leyen .

After 1792 the region was occupied by French troops in the First Revolutionary War and annexed after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 Auersmacher belonged to the French canton of Arnual in the Saar department .

In the First Peace of Paris on May 30, 1814, the canton of Arnual, unlike most of the Saar department, and with it Auersmacher, initially remained with France. After Napoleon's defeat in the Battle of Waterloo and the resulting Second Peace of Paris on November 20, 1815, the place was to be added to the Kingdom of Prussia . However, the wording of the treaty was ambiguous at this point, and further clarification was required in a new border convention between Prussia and France , which only came into effect on October 23, 1829. By setting the trails in the valley of the rivers Saar and Blies as definitive limits also Auersmacher came into the district Saarbrücken in Trier the Rhine province .

As part of the Saarland territorial and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Auersmacher was assigned to the municipality of Kleinblittersdorf on January 1, 1974.

In 1979 Auersmacher received the gold medal in the national competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ”.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Split in a wavy cut, on the right in silver a half mutilated red eagle at the gap, on the left in black, silver-jointed masonry two silver half-timbered gables pole by pole."

The colors of the district are red and white.

The wavy cut indicates the location of the place on Saar and Blies, the mutilated eagle on belonging to the Duchy of Lorraine in the period from 1259 to 1766. The masonry is intended to commemorate the first documentary mention of the place in the testament of Fulrad, court chaplain of Charles the Great and abbot of St. Denis / Paris, who in 777 his monastery a. a. "Auricas Macheras" (maceria = wall, enclosure, settlement) bequeathed. The two half-timbered gables hold the two settlement centers Auersmacher and Kuchlingen (chapel) in place.

The coat of arms was designed by Alois M. Peter and approved on August 30, 1965 by the Saarland Ministry of the Interior.

Culture and sights

Historic farmhouse, today a local museum and pilgrims' hostel

The bakery , the old farmhouse that functions as a local museum , the Kuchling Chapel from 1797 and the largest underground limestone mine in Europe that are still in operation are particularly interesting for visitors.

The southern route of the Saarpfälzischer Jakobsweg , from Hornbach through the Bliesgau , via Sarreguemines to Metz leads through Auersmacher.

tradition

A 96 minute long film called Auersmacher 1225 Years has existed since 2004 and is deposited in the major Saarland libraries by the Saarland Ministry of Culture. The film describes the everyday and special events in the former farming village in the course of 2002, when the district held its 1225th anniversary celebration.

In the years 1979-2010 the traditional Auersmacher village festival took place in June for up to four days, which also attracted visitors far beyond the local and national borders. After declining sales and the failed attempt to replace the now outdated concept with a new festival , the organizing clubs are currently pausing due to a lack of sustainable funding and initiative.

Every five years the local theater association plays a passion play about the life, suffering and death of Jesus Christ , which can already look back on 75 years of tradition. The next scheduled performance will take place in 2020.

societies

The lively club life of Auersmacher shapes local events and not least helps to maintain traditions, which is why there are numerous clubs, such as the Saarland league club SV Auersmacher , where the national player Jonas Hector began his playing career, TV Auersmacher, the fruit club and Gartenbauverein , the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein, the Junge Bühne Auersmacher, the Karnevalsverein die Kowe (Saarland dialect for raven , derived from the French corbeau , a local nickname for the residents of the district), the Kolping Family with their Kolpingskapelle, the youth club and the youngsters Union .
