history

middle Ages

In the Middle Ages , Püttlingen was owned by the Metz bishops. During the investiture controversy (1075–1122), the Metz bishops, loyal to the emperor, transferred the area around Püttlingen to the Lords of Forbach , but they themselves retained the suzerainty over Püttlingen.

In 1365 Henriette, the last owner of the Forbach family, married Johann I von Kriechingen and Püttlingen was transferred to the Kriechingen family. Johann I chose Püttlingen as the seat of an office that also included Obersalbach, Rockershausen and Luisenthal. However, due to the fact that Püttlingen was still a fiefdom of the bishopric of Metz , but at the same time belonged to the Grafschaft Kriechingen , which was an imperial fief , Püttlingen assumed a special role in the Franco-German border area, and thus increasingly became a politically independent territory pushed.

Early modern age

In 1552 the course was in the Treaty of Chambord Metz under French protectorate in exchange for French support of Protestant princes against the Emperor Charles V taken. Since Püttlingen was a Metzer fief, it also fell under French patronage. Even after the Thirty Years' War in 1648 and the Reunion Wars in 1697, Püttlingen and Metz remained French.

18th century

In 1766, the French King Louis XV. the rule Püttlingen against the strategically more favorable territory of the Wadgassen Abbey with Prince Wilhelm Heinrich von Nassau-Saarbrücken and Prince Christian Ludwig zu Wied-Runkel (1762-1791), Lord of Püttlingen, in the so-called exchange agreement of February 15, 1766. With it France renounced the Metzische exclave. In 1788 Christian Ludwig sold the rule of Püttlingen to Prince Ludwig von Nassau-Saarbrücken and from this point on Püttlingen no longer belonged to the County of Kriechingen .

French Revolution and Congress of Vienna

In the years 1792-1793 the areas on the Saar were occupied by French revolutionary troops. Püttlingen (otherwise called Puttelange-lès-Sarrelouis or Pettelange-Créhange ) was assigned to the re-established Kingdom of France and assigned to the Moselle department . In the Second Peace of Paris (1815) the region and thus Püttlingen was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia after Napoleon was defeated by the Allies at Waterloo on June 21, 1815 .

As a result, the town Püttlingen belonged to the mayor Völklingen in district Saarbrücken , while the small towns in the middle Köllertal the mayoralty Sell Erbach were assigned.

industrialization

The Köllertal was predominantly agricultural until the second half of the 19th century mining the industrialization ushered in the region. In 1866 and 1881, the hard coal mines Viktoria I and II were sunk in Püttlingen . The Aspenschacht followed in 1891 and in 1902 the Viktoria III pit in the Engelfangen district of Köllerbach.

Due to the strong influx of workers, there was a rapid population growth and with it the expansion of the villages, which led to a shift in focus in the administrative structures. In 1868 Püttlingen therefore left the Völklingen mayor and became an independent municipality.

20th century

After the First World War in 1919, the Saar area was separated from Germany and came under French occupation. On January 10, 1920, the Versailles peace treaty stipulated that the Saar region should be administered by the League of Nations in Geneva, but economically belong to France. After a period of 15 years, the citizens of the Saar region should then be able to decide freely about their future state membership. During this time there was a domain school in Püttlingen .

In the referendum on January 13, 1935, 90.8% of the Saar population decided to reintegrate into Germany, which was then carried out on March 1, 1935 - the Saar area was rejoined to the German Reich.

After the Second World War , Püttlingen came under American occupation, and on July 29, 1945, under French occupation. On November 17, 1947, the Saarland with the Saar mines was economically connected to France and incorporated into the French currency and customs area. The state constitution of Saarland was adopted on December 15, 1947.

On October 23, 1954, the agreement between the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and the French Republic on the Saar Statute was negotiated between the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and the French Prime Minister Pierre Mendès France . Until the conclusion of a peace treaty with Germany, the agreement provided for the Saarland to be subordinate to a commissioner from the Western European Union . This should represent the country externally. However, the Saarland government should continue to be responsible for internal affairs and the economic connection to France should be maintained. However, closer economic networking with the Federal Republic was also planned.

In the referendum on the agreement on October 23, 1955 on the European Statute of the Saarland , Püttlingen voted as follows: 2569 eligible voters voted “Yes”; 6259 eligible voters voted “No”. In Köllerbach, 1,333 voters voted with “Yes” and 2,481 voters with “No”. Through the negotiations that followed and the Luxembourg Treaty of October 27, 1956, in which France agreed to the reintegration of the Saarland under West German sovereignty , Püttlingen became the Federal Republic politically on January 1, 1957 and economically on July 6, 1959 ("Day X") Germany attached.

On May 21, 1968 Püttlingen was raised to the rank of town.

Incorporations

The town of Püttlingen and the municipality of Köllerbach were merged on January 1, 1974 as part of the municipal reform .

Blazon : Through a curved point, in a blue field sprinkled with nine golden shingles, a right-turned, red-armored and red-tongued golden crowned lion. In the right upper corner in red a floating silver anchor cross, in the left upper corner in silver a red bar.

The Püttlinger coat of arms was awarded to the city on May 9, 1975 by the Saarland Minister of the Interior with the following description: “A red-armored and red-tongued golden crowned lion, split by a curved tip, in a blue field sprinkled with nine golden shingles; in front a floating silver anchor cross in red, behind in silver a red bar. ”The coat of arms contains elements of the coats of arms of the formerly independent municipalities of Püttlingen and Köllerbach.

The silver anchor cross in the red field and the red bar in the silver field come from the former Püttlinger coat of arms and are taken from the family coat of arms of the Grafschaft Kriechingen , which led the red bar as the main coat of arms, while the anchor cross came from their rule Simmern (Septfontaines) in Luxembourg. The lion in the blue field comes from the former Köllerbach coat of arms, taken from the coat of arms of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken . The nine golden shingles attached to the lion are intended to refer to the nine districts of the city of Püttlingen, namely Berg, Bengesen, Ritterstraße in the Püttlingen district and Engelfangen, Sellerbach, Etzenhofen, Herchenbach, Rittenhofen and Kölln in the Köllerbach district.

The city also has its own logo.
