Stefan Hussong

Stefan Hussong (born November 2, 1962 in Köllerbach , Saar ) is a German accordionist . He studied with Eugen Tschanun , Hugo Noth , Joseph Macerollo and Mayumi Miyata at the Trossingen University of Music , at the music academies in Toronto and Tokyo ( Geijutsu Daigaku ). In 1983 he was the first winner of the Hugo Herrmann Competition . In 1987 he received first prize at the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition for Contemporary Music . In 1999 he was awarded the Echo Klassik prize of the German Phono Academy in the category of best instrumentalist of the year .

His solo CD Dream with works by John Cage was named Best record of the year by the Japan Record Guide in 1999. Hussong has premiered more than 150 works dedicated to him and recorded over 40 CDs, many of which have won multiple awards. As a chamber musician he performs with Irvine Arditti , Julius Berger and Miklos Perenyi . As a soloist he gives concerts a. a. with the Orchester de la Suisse Romande , the musikFabrik Nordrhein-Westfalen , the Tokyo Harmonia Chamber Orchestra or the Ensemble Modern .

Hussong is professor for accordion and chamber music at the University of Music in Würzburg .
