Life

He has won numerous international awards and has written commissioned compositions, including for the Donaueschinger Musiktage (1988), for Radio France, Paris (1999, on behalf of the Ensemble Percussions de Strasbourg), for the Bavarian State Opera (2003), for the Slovenian Philharmonic (2004 , 2013) and in 2008 for the Symphony Orchestra of the Slovenian Radio ( EBU concert in Ljubljana).

Rojko writes compositions for orchestral music, chamber music, choral music, solo instruments and electro-acoustic music . His works have been performed by well-known musicians, for example by Stefan Hussong or (1986 in Milan) by the Arditti Quartet . They received performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus (2001), at the opening of the Slovenian Music Days (2004) and were represented seven times at the ISCM World Music Days, including in 1988 in Hong Kong, 1990 in Oslo, 1994 in Stockholm, 1999 in Bucharest, 2004 in Basel, 2006 in Stuttgart, 2008 in Vilnius, 2011 in Zagreb.

The music magazine “Klassik heute” called Uroš Rojko “an exception in today's landscape of new music and said it would not be surprising “that a small group has been by his side for years - such as Stefan Hussong, John Edward Kelly or Bojan Gorisek, who fight convincingly and enthusiastically for his work ”and continued to write that playing and listening to his chamber music is equally rewarding. The “Fono-Forum” described its chamber music as “high tension between rugged expressivity and sensitive sound communication on the edge of silence”.

Rojko has been Professor of Composition at the Music Academy in Ljubljana (Slovenia) since 1995.
