German choir competition

The German Choir Competition is a performance comparison of amateur choirs, which is organized every four years by the German Music Council , the State Music Councils and the ARD .

In addition to the performance evaluation, the German Choir Competition also stands for the encounter of the choirs and should lead to an engagement with contemporary choral music . The performance evaluation takes place in eight evaluation categories:

The participating choirs must qualify through national choir competitions in the individual federal states. The selection of the performed works is determined by various criteria, such as epoch and type of composition. An (optional) compulsory work is prescribed for each category, the other works are freely selectable, taking the criteria into account.
