The Künstlerhof Schreyahn is located in the Rundlingsdorf Schreyahn, around eight kilometers southwest of the district town of Lüchow . The institution, founded in 1979, is supported by the Lüchow community . Together with the district and the cities of Wustrow and Lüchow, she acquired the former Techand farm in 1979 and converted it into a scholarship house with federal and state funds. In 1981 the first authors moved into the main building; 1983 the musicians in the newly completed outbuildings. The main building is a Low German hall building , with the spacious hallway of which a cultural center is available for readings and concerts. In 1992 an extension was built in which there are studios for writers. Since 2001 there has been the "Friends of the Lower Saxony scholarship institution Künstlerhof Schreyahn".

Meaning and special features

The Nicolas Born archive is located in the scholarship office . There is close cooperation with the Nicolas Born Foundation in Lüchow for the fields of literature and literary studies. The writer and former scholarship holder Adam Silk bequeathed his private library of around 4,000 volumes to the scholarship holder. Together with the court library and the “Library of the Lower Saxony Literature Council”, these four collections form the “Northern Germany Literature Center”; It is available to scholarship holders of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg , the schools in the district and the interested public for study purposes.

The Künstlerhof organizes conferences, for example a symposium was held in connection with an exhibition about the writer Nicolas Born on the 20th anniversary of his death. Up until 2007, the scholarship institution organized the “Schreyahner Herbst” festival with a nationally recognized series of concerts for modern music. There is a cooperation agreement with the “Applied Cultural Studies” department of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg; he conducts full-day seminars with his students in the Künstlerhof.

In later publications by the Künstlerhof scholarship holders, there are texts whose Schreyahn origin is unmistakable. Among other things, the writer Guntram Vesper , who lived in the Künstlerhof for a time, wrote a cycle of poems "Schreyahn", in which he does not write about the idyllic Wendland. "Instead, Vesper deals with the arguments about Gorleben or reflects on the Wendland residents - whereby their National Socialist past is also included, as in 'New Year in Schreyahn'."

The writer Wolfgang Bittner , who lived for several months in the Künstlerhof Schreyahn in 1987, has processed his impressions in several poems that are contained in his volume of poetry, Spurensuche (1998).
