Norbert Müller (born March 16, 1963 in Aachen ) is a German writer and is considered to be one of the most astute humorists in the German language: His humor is due to his "deeply melancholy, but knowledgeable and disciplined view of the German present". In his novel “Easy Germany” he managed “a furious social comedy about the tragic and ridiculous aspects of our existence”.

Life

After graduating from high school and the armed forces, he studied German, political science and psychology in Freiburg i. Br. And Vienna. During his studies he repeatedly worked as a postman. In 1988 he subsequently refused military service and did community service for a few months in a rehabilitation clinic in Bad Krozingen. He graduated in 1993 and worked in Vienna as a lecturer for German as a foreign language. In 1997 his play "Kafkas Kern" was premiered at the WUK in Vienna under the direction of Axel Bagatsch . His first novel "Lettermanns Fall" was published in 1998 by Gollenstein Verlag. In 1997 he went to Dublin for a year, then to Oxford for two years and has lived as a writer in Berlin ever since. In 2001 and 2003 he was invited to the "Days of German-Language Literature" in Klagenfurt, "Der Sorgegenerator" was published in 2004, "Feierabend" in 2005 and "Easy Germany" in 2007 (all three novels by Residenz Verlag). He won the Würth Literature Prize in 2014 with the story "fetching cigarettes", which, according to the jury, translated the theme of the prize in straightforward language and in a surprising manner . From April 2014 to March 2015 he was the holder of the Lydia Eymann Scholarship and during this time lived in Langenthal, Canton Bern (CH). Since April 2015 he has been working as a freelance writer in Berlin again. He has a daughter.
