Felix Ayo

Félix Ayo (born July 1, 1933 in Sestao , Bizkaia , Spain ) is an Italian violinist of Basque origin.

Life

Félix Ayo passed the concert qualification test as a soloist at the Conservatorio Vizcaíno de Música in Bilbao at the age of fourteen before continuing his studies with Rémy Principe (1889–1977) in Paris and Rome . From 1952 to 1967 he was concertmaster of the I Musici chamber orchestra , of which he was one of the founding members. In 1968 he founded the Beethoven Quartetto with Marcello Abbado ( piano ), Alfonso Ghedin ( viola ) and Vincenzo Altobelli ( cello ) , which he left after two years. From 1972 he taught at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. As a soloist he has appeared with the symphony orchestras of Rome, Naples , Madrid , Copenhagen and Tokyo , the Australian Chamber Orchestra , the Berlin Chamber Orchestra , the Tokyo String Ensemble , the Virtuosi di Roma and the Zagreb Soloists . Since 1983 he has also worked as a conductor .

Awards

For his recordings, Ayo received the Grand Prix du Disque , the Premio della Critica Discografica Italiana , the Edison Prize twice and the German Record Critics' Prize three times . His musical life's work was honored with the award of the Premio Roma and the Premio San Michele .
