Michael Wildenhain
Michael Wildenhain ( pseudonym : Carl Wille , born September 20, 1958 in Berlin ) is a German writer .
Live and act
Michael Wildenhain is the son of a locksmith and an educator. He grew up in West Berlin .
After graduating from high school, he completed an internship as a mechanical engineer and then studied a. a. Computer science , philosophy , mathematics and industrial engineering . He held various auxiliary jobs and was part of a group of young squatters in Berlin for two years in the early 1980s . After a period as an intern at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, he settled in 1987 as a freelance writer in Berlin.
Michael Wildenhain is the author of novels , short stories , poems , plays and books for young people . In his first works he portrays the squatter and autonomous scene in Berlin-Kreuzberg in the eighties and of the “German Autumn” . In the later novels, contemporary historical objects are presented, and the tension between natural science and humanities is thematized. His pieces deal with topics such as violence and right-wing radicalism among young people. Since 1987 he has received several awards and grants for his book publications. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, a symposium on his work was held in the literature forum in the Brecht House: “History and the individual. On the literary and historical work of Michael Wildenhain ”.
He is a member of the Association of German Writers (VS) and was on the board from June 2014 to the end of May 2017 and has been chairman of the Berlin State Association (VS Berlin) since May 9, 2018. He is also a member of the PEN Center Germany and joined the Left Party in 2012 .
In March 2018, Wildenhain was one of the first to sign a declaration in which writers and other cultural workers show solidarity with all people who “seek refuge from war, persecution and poverty in our country”.
