Philipp Maintz

Philipp Maintz (born February 28, 1977 in Aachen ) is a German composer.

biography

Maintz studied composition with Michael Reudenbach , Robert HP Platz and electronic music with Karlheinz Essl , furthermore he complemented his studies with work at the CRFMW (Center de Recherches et de Formations Musicales de Wallonie) at the University of Liège and at the IRCAM (Institut des Recherches et Coordinations Musicales ) in Paris . In addition to awards and scholarships, he received the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Award in 2005 and a grant from the Federal Government for the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris in 2007 . In 2009 he received a scholarship for the Akademie Schloss Solitude . In 2010 he completed an annual stay at the Villa Massimo in Rome.

His works were performed at the Witten Days for New Chamber Music , the Salzburg Festival , at musica (Strasbourg) and Wien modern; they have been interpreted by the Arditti String Quartet, the Minguet Quartet, the Ensemble intercontemporain , the Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, the Ensemble 2e2m, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (Lothar Zagrosek), the BBC Symphony Orchestra (Pierre-André Valade). His opera Maldoror was performed at the 2010 Munich Biennale .
