Annesley Black

Annesley Catherine Black (* 1979 in Ottawa ) is a Canadian composer .

biography

Black completed a degree in composition with Brian Cherney at McGill University in Montreal , which she graduated in 2004. She then continued her studies in Germany, initially (until 2006) with York Höller and Hans Ulrich Humpert at the Cologne University of Music and Dance , then (2006 to 2008) with Mathias Spahlinger (composition), Orm Finnendahl (electronic music) and Cornelius Schwehr (applied music) at the Freiburg University of Music .

Since 2008 she has made regular appearances and recordings with the experimental studio of the SWR as assistant for sound direction and works as sound director for ensembles and soloists such as ensemble recherche , canto battuto and Rei Nakamura . She teaches ear training at Kronberg Academy and electronic media / electronic composition at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main.

Black's compositions have been performed at festivals such as the ECLAT Festival Stuttgart, the Ultrasound Festival Berlin, the Darmstadt Summer Courses , the Witten Days for New Chamber Music and the Donaueschinger Musiktage . The interpreters of her works include the Ensemble Modern , Ensemble ascolta, Nouvel Ensemble Modern, ensemble SurPlus , ensemble mosaik, Quintet Boreal, Composers Slide Quartet and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony . In May 2018, Black was elected as a new member of the music section of the Berlin Academy of the Arts .
