history

The ensemble was founded in 1992 in Freiburg im Breisgau by the American pianist and conductor James Avery. His musicians not only work in traditional concert settings, but also in projects that transcend the boundaries of traditional music performance in experimental sound exhibitions, interior design, improvisations and instrumental theater. The line-up varies from duo to large chamber music ensemble. The ensemble SurPlus also performs regularly with guest instrumentalists, among others with the accordionists Wolfgang Dimetrik and Stefan Hussong , with Thomas Wagner ( tuba ), Harry White ( saxophone ) or the harpists Marina Paccagnella and Sonja Inglefield . In 1992 the ensemble was invited to the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music . There has been a close collaboration with the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart since 1994 .
