Olaf Tzschoppe (* 1962 in Kiel ) is a German musician, drummer and chamber musician .

Life

He studied drums at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Bernhard Wulff , at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (USA) with Michael Udow and was a DAAD scholarship holder .

His artistic focus is the solo repertoire and chamber music of the 20th / 21st centuries. Century as well as the interdisciplinary collaboration with other arts. He has premiered many solo and chamber music works composed especially for him and has participated in radio recordings and CD recordings. He pays particular attention to the combination of organ and drums. Many compositions were written especially for him and the organist Zsigmond Szathmáry and some have also been released on CD.

Olaf Tzschoppe has been a member of the world-famous soloist ensemble Percussions de Strasbourg since 1992, with which he has received numerous prizes and awards, and co-founder of the Ensemble SurPlus and Trio SurPlus, Freiburg. He is also a member of the SWR Experimental Ensemble . Regular tours take him to other European countries and overseas (Asia, America, Africa).

In addition to solo appearances, he plays concerts with improvised music. He has a long-standing collaboration with the Turkish drummer Murat Coşkun . He wrote his own compositions, such as Guro for Percussion and Viola (2008), and arrangements.

Since 2004 Olaf Tzschoppe has been professor for percussion and chamber music at the University of the Arts in Bremen .
