Murat Coşkun
Murat Coşkun (* 1972 ) is a German percussionist . The Turkish-born Coskun is a lecturer of international frame drum - master classes . As a member of the Ensemble FisFüz , he received the SWR World Music Prize in 1998. The professional musician and orientalist is also involved in the development of new percussion instruments.
Live and act
Based on his degree in oriental studies and ethnomusicology in Freiburg im Breisgau , Murat Coşkun is a full-time percussionist. He mediates between the musical worlds of the Orient and Occident, draws from a music repertoire from the most diverse cultures and is involved in styles such as world music , early music , jazz , new music and experimental percussion. The student of Glen Velez is an expert on the popular, classical and religious music of the Near East and Eastern Europe , some of which he studied on site. In collaboration with the composer Klaus Hinrich Stahmer and the Lebanese poet Fuad Rifka , he developed cross-over techniques in the songs of a wood collector .
He gives concerts worldwide with his solo program Finger Dance , is a percussionist with Giora Feidman and others and a member of the Ensemble FisFüz (oriental jazz) and the Freiburg Spielleyt (early music). With the five-time Grammy winner Glen Velez and the voice acrobat Loire (Lori Cotler) he founded the trio Rhythmystic Voice . He is repeatedly used as a solo percussionist in orchestras such as B. the NDR radio symphonies , the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra , Tonkünstler Orchester Nieder Österreich were invited. He worked with international musicians such as Kudsi Ergüner , Misirli Ahmet and conductors such as Attilio Cremonesi, Michael Hofstetter and Enrique Ugarte. His concerts have taken him to Western and Eastern Europe, Mongolia, USA, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Korea, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Iran and Israel. In addition to his concert activities, he also appears as a studio musician and as a composer for CD, DVD and theater productions (including BR, Theater Luxembourg, Theater Luzern). TV and radio productions with and about him were broadcast on ARD , ZDF , SWR , ARTE , BR , WDR , Deutschlandradio , MDR and Radio Bremen .
Since 1994 Coşkun has been teaching percussion instruments at home and abroad (including in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, USA, Turkey, Iran) and is invited as a guest lecturer for oriental percussion and frame drums. As an author for the magazine Drums und Percussion he developed the first frame drum instructional DVD Finger Dance and as an endorser of the companies Anklang Musikwelt and Schlagwerk Percussion he is involved in the new development of frame drums. Murat Coşkun has been Head of the World Percussion course at the Popakademie Mannheim since 2015, where he teaches frame drums.
Murat Coşkun won the SWR World Music Prize in 1998 and was awarded the ZMF Prize in 2004.
Tamburi Mundi
Coşkun is the founder and director of the international frame drum festival Tamburi Mundi (German: Frame Drums of the World ), which has been held annually in Freiburg at the end of July / beginning of August since 2006. To this end, the musician released a double CD in 2006, which the specialist magazine for World Music praised blue rhythm as “the living protocol of a one-off event”. The annual festival is now one of the most important frame drum events and is now held in Freiburg in addition to other places in countries such as Iran and Italy.
