Enrique Ugarte (born September 1, 1957 in Tolosa , Basque Country , Spain ) is a Basque musician and conductor who now lives in Germany.

Life

He studied accordion and oboe at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música" in San Sebastián . He then studied composition at the Munich University of Music, completing a master class . This was followed by training as a conductor with Sergiu Celibidache at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and Ernst Schelle in France. He began playing the accordion at the age of four, and at the age of seven he had his first public concert in front of 1,500 people. He works as a conductor and orchestrator at the NDR-Radiophilharmonie Hanover, among others, and performs regularly with Giora Feidman.

In 1994/1995 he wrote the music for the opera "Schattenkinder", in which the events of the Children's Crusades in 1212, are related to the plot developed by Jürgen Fuhrmann and from this written libretto. "Schattenkinder" was premiered in June 1995 in Munich / Germering with the Philharmonic of Nations, 14 soloists and three choirs. Jürgen Fuhrmann directed, Enrique Ugarte was the musical director.

From 2003 to 2006 he was musical director of the Ettlingen Castle Festival . As a conductor he works with the NDR-Radiophilharmonie, the WDR-Funkhausorchester, the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Komische Oper Berlin , the Philharmonischen Orchester Freiburg , the Basque Nationalorchester San Sebastián, Komische Oper Berlin, Nürnberger Symphoniker, the English Chamber Orchestra , the Tonkünstlerorchester Wien, Orquesta Sinfónica de Córdoba , the Philharmonic of Nations , and many more

His work now includes orchestrating film sound tracks with over 60 works including, for example, " The Miracle of Bern " with the NDR Radiophilharmonie and " Die Päpstin " with the German State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate . At the world premiere of Mike Oldfield's "Sound of the Spheres" he conducted the Basque National Orchestra at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao.

He performed with Chick Corea , Mike Oldfield, Giora Feidman , Till Brönner , Klaus Doldinger, Max Mutzke , Mischa Maisky , Fazil Say and Daniel Müller-Schott .

Most of his compositions are commissioned works for film, music, opera, symphonic music and theater.

2016: On the 80th birthday of Klaus Doldinger , he conducted the WDR Funkhausorchester Köln in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf

In 2016 he conducted the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra and played the accordion at the gala of the Zelt-Musik-Festival in honor of the Israeli clarinetist Giora Feidman
