Ulrich Alexander Kreppein

Ulrich Alexander Kreppein (born February 9, 1979 in Leverkusen-Opladen ) is a German composer .

Life

Ulrich Kreppein, born in Leverkusen-Opladen and raised in Schorndorf ( Baden-Württemberg ), studied at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf and at Columbia University in New York. In 2006 he went on to study for a doctoral thesis at Harvard University in Boston (USA), which he completed in 2011 with a Ph.D in composition. His composition teachers include Manfred Trojahn , Tristan Murail , Helmut Lachenmann and Julian Anderson .

Since 2014 he has been teaching composition at the Liszt School of Music Weimar .

Ulrich Kreppein has received numerous prizes and grants. His compositional oeuvre encompasses a broad oeuvre from instrumental solo works to vocal music, with particular emphasis on orchestral works and music theater. The interpreters of his works include the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln , Orchester national de Belgique, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR , Orchester national de Lille, Ensemble mosaik, Ensemble Modern , Ensemble intercontemporain , Concerto Köln , Bachakademie Stuttgart , Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Boulanger Trio . Kreppein's first full-length opera The Temptation of Saint Anthony was premiered on May 8, 2012 at the Oldenburg State Theater. The Opera Lab Berlin realized Kreppein's experimental music theater Körper / Schatten (premiere 23 March 2016).
