Zeynep Gedizlioğlu

Zeynep Gedizlioğlu (born December 4, 1977 in Izmir ) is a Turkish composer of contemporary music.

life and work

Gedizlioğlu studied composition with Cengiz Tanc in Istanbul , Theo Brandmüller in Saarbrücken and with Ivan Fedele in Strasbourg. From the winter semester 2007 to 2009 she studied with Wolfgang Rihm in Karlsruhe .

The musician composed several commissioned works, for example for the Arditti Quartet . On behalf of Seda Röder , she recently created one of six works for solo piano for Röder's project Istanbul Listen - an encounter with contemporary Turkish music (2010) as part of Istanbul 2010 . Also stage music. She also has numerous appearances at festivals for new music .

Gedizlioğlu's compositions have been performed by international performers such as Ensemble recherche and Ensemble Accroche Note . The Ulucan Trio recorded one of their compositions on CD in 2009, along with pieces by Fazıl Say and İnci Yakar (Salon Romantique Turque).

Gedizlioğlu has received a number of awards. So she got u. a. the Franz Liszt Prize of the Liszt School of Music Weimar and several scholarships. In 2012 she was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize for composers .

In addition, Gedizlioğlu was a prominent German-Turk in 2009 in the SWR 2 series Learn Turkish with Lilo von Plüskow .
