Fabien Lévy

Fabien Lévy (born December 11, 1968 in Paris ) is a French composer .

Life

From 1996 to 2001 he studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris , among others composition with Gérard Grisey and Marco Stroppa , analysis with Michaël Levinas , comparative musicology with Gilles Léothaud and orchestration with Marc-André Dalbavie . Lévy received his doctorate from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales . In addition to his musical training, he also acquired specialist degrees in mathematics and theoretical economics . In these departments he worked as a researcher and lecturer until 1994.

From 1998 to 2001 he worked at IRCAM . During this time he is teaching at the musicological institute of the Sorbonne . Between 2004 and 2006 he taught orchestration at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . From 2006 to 2012 he was Assistant Professor of Composition at Columbia University in New York . 2012–2017 Fabien Lévy was Professor of Composition at the Detmold University of Music . Since October 2017 he has been Professor of Composition at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig .

Works

Fabien Lévy has composed solo works, chamber music, electroacoustic music, ensemble pieces and works for orchestra. His works are performed by artists all over Europe and the United States , including the Berliner Rundfunksymphonieorchester, the Tokyo Sinfonieorchester, the Ensemble recherche , the Ensemble Argento and the new Vocalsolisten Stuttgart . The instrumental works are published by Billaudot Verlag (Paris) (1998–2008), Ricordi Germany (2008–2018) and, from 2018, Edition Peters .
