Marco Stroppa

Marco Stroppa (born December 8, 1959 in Verona , Italy) is an Italian composer . He deals with both computer music and instrumental compositions in connection with live electronics .

biography

Marco Stroppa first studied piano, composition, choral conducting and electronic music in Italy . Between 1980 and 1984 he worked with the Computer Sound Research Center of the University of Padua . From 1984 to 1986 he stayed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA . Here he studied cognitive psychology , computer science and artificial intelligence .

At the invitation of Pierre Boulez , he moved to Paris in 1982, where he headed the musical research department at IRCAM from 1987 to 1990 . In the summer of the same year he was among the next generation composers at the Salzburg Festival . Stroppa has been teaching at IRCAM since 1984. In 1987 he founded the composition and computer music course at the International Bartók Festival in Szombathely ( Hungary ). After teaching at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Lyon and Paris, he has been professor of composition at the Stuttgart University of Music since 1999 .
