Nickel's compositions were initially characterized by a more postmodern eclecticism ( postmodernism ), which, however, always saw itself as part of a varying process and only allowed things that are connected to one another on a deeper structural level to appear in different shapes. Later, under the influence of more recent literature, such as the " Zettelkasten ", Nickel developed a precisely contrapuntal, discontinuous and structurally subtle musical style based on cantus firmus-like periods (see Cantus firmus , Ars nova , Renaissance ) and a varying one Assembly technology works.
