Gordon Kampe

Gordon Kampe (born September 10, 1976 in Herne ) is a German composer .

Life

Gordon Kampe completed an apprenticeship as an electrician from 1993 to 1995. After the subsequent acquisition of the baccalaureate and community service, he studied from 1998 composition at the Music Academy in Rostock , u. a. with Hans-Joachim Hespos and Adriana Hölszky . In 2000, Kampe moved to the Folkwang University in Essen , where he continued his studies with Nicolaus A. Huber . He also studied music and history at the University of Bochum . After completing his degree in 2003, he did a musicological doctorate in 2008. Since 2009 Kampe has been working as a research assistant at the Folkwang University of the Arts. He also works as a church musician at the Johanniskirche in Herne . Since 2017 he has been Professor of Composition and Music Theory at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .

Kampe is co-editor of the magazine Seiltanz - Contributions to Contemporary Music and has been an elected member of the Young Academy at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences / German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina since 2012 .

Kampe's compositional work includes orchestral and ensemble works, chamber music and works for choir and singing. The interpreters of his compositions include a. Another focus of his work is music theater. Since 2009 a number of commissioned works have been created, including a. for the Stuttgart State Opera ( civil courage. Music for a place UA 2009), the Oldenburgische Staatstheater ( ANOIA UA 2012), the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Saarländisches Staatstheater ( Can you whistle, Johanna UA 2013). PLÄTZE was created in 2014/15 in cooperation with the Experimental Music Theater Fund and Theater Bielefeld . ROOFS. PEOPLE. WAYS. Music theater for a utopian Bielefeld .

In 2016 he received the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation award .
