Arnulf Herrmann

Arnulf Herrmann (born December 12, 1968 in Heidelberg ) is a German composer .

Life

Herrmann first studied piano with Gernot Sieber at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich , then composition with Wilfried Krätzschmar and music theory and piano with Arkadi Zenzipér at the Dresden University of Music . From 1995 to 1996 he was an Erasmus exchange student at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP) with Gérard Grisey and Emmanuel Nunes . He then studied composition with Friedrich Goldmann and music theory with Hartmut Fladt and Gösta Neuwirth at the Berlin University of the Arts (today's University of the Arts ) . In 2002 he completed his studies with Hanspeter Kyburz and Jörg Mainka at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin .

Arnulf Herrmann works with international ensembles for contemporary music, including the Ensemble intercontemporain , the Klangforum Wien , the Ensemble musikFabrik and the Ensemble Modern . His pieces are played at festivals such as the Donaueschinger Musiktage , the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik or Wien Modern .

In 2003 Herrmann took on a teaching position in theory, analysis and ear training at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin, from 2004 he was the main subject teacher for composition and since 2006 he has also been a lecturer for instrumentation and analysis.

Since April 1, 2014, he has been the successor to Theo Brandmüller as professor of composition at the Saar University of Music .

In November 2017, his opera Der Mieter at the Frankfurt Opera , which commissioned the work, premiered with great success . The opera is based on the novel by Roland Topor from 1964, the libretto was written by Klaus Händl . It staged Johannes Erath , it conducted Kazushi Ono .
